Q:
Do you work from a form? And if so, won't all obituaries look alike? A: We have a questionnaire which is used simply as a starting point. But each obituary will differ, just as everyone's fingerprints differ. Q: What guarantee do I have a newspaper will print my obituary? A: Obituaries are as much a fact of life as dying. Our job will be to create an A/P-style obituary, to accepted newspaper standards, and capture your life as correctly and succinctly as possibly. Every editor makes this decision on a daily basis -- "which one will I use, which one will I run big?" Most newspapers are obligated to run small obits on everyone who dies in their area or region. Based upon your contributions to your country, your community, or the arts & culture of your area, they may choose to run your obituary as a feature article. Our obituaries will help them to make those decisions. Q: Couldn't I write my own obituary? A: Yes, you certainly can. And you will be the author of this story. Consider us the ghostwriter, or co-author. We are only here to guide you and help you capture your life in the appropriate package for possible publication in the future. Q: What if my life was extremely exciting, and I have a lot to say? A: This will frequently be the case. The service being provided here is designed to document your life in an obituary. The specific format of an obituary involves capturing and summarizing your life, not writing your life story as a novel. In our effort to provide obituary editors with a document in a format with which they are familiar, we will cap our obituaries at four pages. Four double-spaced, typed pages is 1,000 words. Most printed obituaries are far less. Note: Frequently editors call the family to fill in with greater details of a particular area in your life as they deem necessary. Q: Is there a family price structure? A: Yes, if two people purchase the service together, the rate drops from $500 per obituary to $450 -- a savings of $100. Q: Can I make a gift out of a LivingObituary? A: Yes. We have gift certificates for gift-giving purposes. Back |
